Naya M.
Finally found a dentist that I love & my kids are comfortable with. I recommend them to everyone I know!
Jillianne O.
Got braces for a 2nd time as an adult. I am blown away with how comfortable the staff always made me feel being an adult with braces. Half the staff had them as well! Also, the staff always went well above and beyond with my kids. Most of the time I would have to bring my 4 yr old and 2 yr old while I was pregnant with my 3rd and they had no problem with them sitting on my lap and even brought fidget toys in for them or let them play with gloves. Whenever I didn’t bring the kids they would ask where they were and seemed bummed that they weren’t there. I still had braces when I had my 3rd baby and again, everyone was so wonderful when I came in with my whole clan. Thankyou for making braces as an adult a somewhat enjoyable experience!
Michelle S.
The staff is always so friendly. Explaining each step of my son’s treatment. We love Bridge City Braces!
Sarah M.
The team here is so supportive and the appointments are on time! Love coming here!

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the braces journey?
The braces journey involves initial consultation, treatment planning, braces fitting, regular adjustments, oral hygiene maintenance, and finally, the removal of braces. Retainers are then worn to maintain the results. Regular visits and proper care are essential for successful treatment and a beautiful smile.
Who found out about braces?
Braces were discovered by Pierre Fauchard, known as the "Father of Modern Dentistry," in the 18th century. He developed the concept of using dental braces to correct teeth alignment issues.
How long do braces treatments last?
The duration of braces treatments typically lasts between 18 to 24 months, but it can vary based on individual needs and treatment plans. Regular adjustments and proper care are essential for successful outcomes. After braces are removed, retainers are often worn to maintain the results.
Can braces correct bite misalignment?
Yes, braces can correct bite misalignment by gradually shifting the teeth into proper alignment, improving the bite function and overall oral health. Different types of braces, such as traditional metal braces or Invisalign, can effectively address various types of bite misalignments, providing long-term benefits.
What types of braces are available?
There are several types of braces available, including traditional metal braces, ceramic braces, lingual braces, and clear aligners like Invisalign. Each type has its own benefits and considerations, so it's essential to consult with an orthodontic specialist to determine the best option for your specific needs.
When should one consider getting braces?
Consider getting braces when teeth are misaligned, overcrowded, or have bite issues. Early evaluation for children, typically around age 7, can prevent future problems. Adults can benefit from braces at any age for improved oral health and confidence. Schedule a consultation with an orthodontist to discuss your specific needs.
Are there any age restrictions for braces?
There are no age restrictions for braces. Both teens and adults can benefit from orthodontic treatment to achieve a straighter smile. Invisalign is a popular option for adults seeking a discreet way to straighten their teeth. Contact us for a free orthodontic consultation to learn more.
How often are braces maintenance appointments?
Braces maintenance appointments typically occur every 6-8 weeks, allowing the orthodontist to monitor progress, make adjustments, and ensure treatment is on track. Regular visits are crucial for successful orthodontic treatment.
What are the latest advancements in braces?
The latest advancements in braces include Invisalign for teens and adults, orthodontic emergencies guidance, and advanced retainers for maintaining treatment results. Cutting-edge technology and personalized care are key features in modern orthodontic treatment.
Are braces covered by dental insurance plans?
Braces may be partially covered by dental insurance plans, depending on the specific policy. It's essential to check with your insurance provider to understand the coverage details, including any deductibles, limits, and exclusions related to orthodontic treatment. Some plans offer benefits for orthodontic care for both children and adults, so it's advisable to review your policy to determine the extent of coverage available for braces.
How to manage discomfort from new braces?
To manage discomfort from new braces, try these tips: Use orthodontic wax on any irritating wires or brackets. Rinse with warm saltwater to soothe soreness. Eat soft foods and avoid hard, sticky items. Take over-the-counter pain relievers as needed. Stay consistent with oral hygiene to prevent additional discomfort.
What foods should be avoided with braces?
Foods to avoid with braces include sticky candies, hard nuts, popcorn, and chewy foods like gum. Cut hard fruits and veggies into small pieces. Opt for soft foods to prevent damage and maintain good oral hygiene during orthodontic treatment.
How do braces impact oral hygiene routines?
Braces can make oral hygiene routines more challenging due to food getting stuck in brackets and wires. Proper brushing and flossing techniques are crucial to prevent plaque buildup and cavities. Regular dental check-ups and cleanings are essential during orthodontic treatment to maintain good oral health.
Can braces fix gaps between teeth?
Yes, braces can fix gaps between teeth by gradually moving the teeth into the desired position to close the spaces. Orthodontic treatment, including braces, can effectively address gaps and create a more aligned smile over time. Regular adjustments and proper care are essential for successful gap closure with braces.
What is the success rate of braces?
The success rate of braces is high, with most patients achieving straighter teeth and improved smiles. Compliance with treatment, proper oral hygiene, and following orthodontist instructions are key factors in achieving successful outcomes. Regular appointments and wearing retainers post-treatment help maintain results.
Are there alternatives to traditional metal braces?
Yes, alternatives to traditional metal braces include Invisalign for teens and adults, which are clear aligners that are virtually invisible. Other options may include ceramic braces, lingual braces, and clear braces. Each option has its own benefits and considerations, so it's best to consult with an orthodontist to determine the most suitable choice for your specific needs.
How do braces influence speech patterns?
Braces can temporarily affect speech patterns by causing slight changes in tongue and lip movements. Patients may experience difficulty pronouncing certain sounds initially, but speech typically adjusts as the mouth adapts to the braces. Speech therapy or practicing speaking exercises can help improve clarity during this adjustment period.
Is there a best season to get braces?
The best season to get braces is typically during the school year, as adjustments can be made during breaks. However, any time of year is suitable for starting orthodontic treatment. It's essential to consult with an orthodontist to determine the best timing for your specific needs.
What follow-up care is needed after braces?
After braces, follow-up care typically includes wearing retainers as instructed by the orthodontist, attending regular check-up appointments, maintaining good oral hygiene, and following any specific post-braces care guidelines provided. It's essential to follow these recommendations to ensure the long-term success of the orthodontic treatment.
How to choose the right braces color?
When choosing the right braces color, consider your skin tone, eye color, and personal style. Bright colors can make a statement, while neutral tones blend in. Consult with your orthodontist for guidance on color options that suit you best.
Are retainers required after braces are removed?
Yes, retainers are typically required after braces are removed to maintain the results of orthodontic treatment and keep teeth aligned. Retainers help prevent teeth from shifting back to their original positions. Regular wear as instructed by the orthodontist is essential for long-term success.
Can braces cause tooth discoloration?
Braces themselves do not cause tooth discoloration. However, improper oral hygiene while wearing braces can lead to staining or discoloration. It's essential to maintain good oral care habits, including regular brushing and flossing, to prevent discoloration during orthodontic treatment.
What is the cost range for braces?
The cost range for braces can vary depending on the type of treatment needed and the duration of the orthodontic care. On average, traditional braces can cost between $3,000 to $7,000, while Invisalign treatment typically ranges from $3,000 to $8,000. Additional factors like insurance coverage and payment plans can also impact the final cost. It's best to schedule a consultation for an accurate estimate.
Do braces require extractions before treatment?
Braces may require extractions before treatment to create space for alignment. Your orthodontist will assess your specific needs during the initial consultation to determine if extractions are necessary for successful treatment. It's essential to follow your orthodontist's recommendations for the best results.
How do clear braces differ from metal ones?
Clear braces, like Invisalign, are virtually invisible and removable, while metal braces are fixed and more noticeable. Clear braces are typically more comfortable and require fewer adjustments, but may not be suitable for complex orthodontic issues. Metal braces are often more cost-effective and effective for severe misalignments.
What emergencies can occur with braces?
Emergencies with braces can include broken brackets, wires poking, or discomfort. Contact your orthodontist for guidance and assistance in managing these situations promptly. Follow care instructions to prevent further issues and ensure successful treatment.
Can braces affect playing wind instruments?
Braces can initially affect playing wind instruments due to adjustments in mouth shape and muscle control. With practice and adaptation, most individuals can continue playing without significant issues. Using orthodontic wax can help reduce discomfort and improve performance. Consult your orthodontist for personalized advice.
How to alleviate braces-induced mouth sores?
To alleviate braces-induced mouth sores, rinse with warm salt water, apply orthodontic wax to the brackets causing irritation, use a soft-bristled toothbrush, avoid hard or sticky foods, and consult your orthodontist for further guidance.
Can braces change a persons facial structure?
Braces primarily focus on aligning teeth rather than changing facial structure. However, in some cases, correcting severe malocclusions can impact facial appearance slightly. Consult with an orthodontist for personalized advice on how braces may affect your facial features.
How are braces adjusted during treatment?
Braces are adjusted during treatment by the orthodontist tightening or changing the wires and bands. This process helps gradually shift the teeth into the desired position for a straighter smile. Regular adjustments are necessary to ensure progress and proper alignment.
